L'Hotel des Invalides has to be on your list of places to see in Paris. The place of Napoleon's tomb. it was initially built as a retirement home for war veterans. Today it is a complex of three museums and a popular tourist attraction. So for all you museum buffs, this is an absolutely essential place to visit. Even if you're not a museum buff, the sheer beauty of the buildings and gardens makes it well worth a visit.
To get there, take the Metro to La Tour Maubourg station as this is the closest station - be aware that there is a station which is actually called Invalides, which you would think would be the closest, but it is actually further away (although still quite close). The second closest Metro station is Varenne.
When you exit La Tour Maubourg station, you will find yourself in a small triangular garden space. From here, you want to cross the Avenue de la Motte Picquet and turn left. You will actually be able to see the buildings of Les Invalides with a distinctive dome that dominates the buildings. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can get in that way, though. Continue along the road, as if you are leaving the dome behind you, and follow the sidewalk around to the right. This will bring you to the entrance gates.
Les Invalides includes a large chapel with an enormous and beatifully decorated dome. The chapel is the burial place for many French military heroes, of whom the most well known outside France is Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon's tomb is right underneath the dome of the chapel.
Also within the complex, you will find the Musee de l'Armee. This contains a selection of weapons, defenses, uniforms and various military regalia from ancient times up until the Second World War. It is very interesting to see WW2 from the perspective of a country that was occupied.

Yeah! Damn a beautiful place. I hope everyone has a dream about something, but my only dream is to visit Paris once in my lifetime.
