Like the wild canids before him, your dog needs a bed of his own, as do your family members. Whether he prefers to sleep in the house or on a camp or in a cabin, have multiple www.calmingdogbeds available for him to choose from.
You may also need additional beds if you travel or have a camp. Use several dog beds instead of moving one throughout the day so your companion has a cozy spot where he usually hangs out. If he likes to relax in the living room, the kitchen, on the porch, or on the floor beside your bed, provide supportive places for him.
It's not always a sign he doesn't like the bed if he prefers to lay on the floor in your office rather than on the dog bed you placed in an empty room. Consider adding a bed in areas where he spends a lot of time to create spaces that are all his.
You need a dog bed in your dog's crate because a dog bed provides more support than a cold, hard crate floor when you leave your dog behind. Train your puppy as soon as he is young to sleep in his dog bed or crate so he develops a sense of his own 'home'. It's time to upgrade to a dog bed when your puppy (or adult dog) can spend a long stretch in his crate without ripping up his bedding or toys.
While you're away, give your dog some extra support with a memory foam or lofty, cushioned fiberfill bed. An elevated bolster bed allows the dog to lean against the crate without pressing against its wire sides, provides a comfortable place to rest his chin, and provides security for the dog who prefers to curl up in his crate.
