Fellowship money for doctoral study is typically granted depending on numerous specialised areas. It is merit-based rather than need-based in most cases. Fellowship funds are often discretionary, allowing Scholarship Fellowship student winners to spend them as they see fit while pursuing graduate studies. They are frequently accompanied by a stipend. Scholarships are normally awarded on the basis of merit, although they can also be awarded based on financial necessity.
