Eriacta 100 mg contains sildenafil citrate, the same active ingredient found in Viagra. Eriacta 100 mg was originally discovered by scientists at Pfizer while they were researching potential treatments for hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina pectoris (a form of chest pain). The discovery of sildenafil's potential to treat erectile dysfunction was somewhat serendipitous, as its effects on penile erections were noticed during clinical trials for its cardiovascular applications. Pfizer patented sildenafil in 1996 and subsequently marketed it under the brand name Viagra for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Eriacta 100 mg is a generic version of Viagra containing sildenafil citrate and has been available since the patent on Viagra expired.
