Paper.io is a multiplayer arcade-style game available on mobile platforms and web browsers. Players control a moving square that trails a colored line behind it. As you move, you can enclose areas of the map—once your trail closes back into your original area, everything inside becomes your new territory.
However, while outside your safe zone, your trail becomes your weakest point. If another player crosses your line before you complete a loop, your game ends. Likewise, you can eliminate others by cutting through their trails while they expand.
Core Gameplay Mechanics
Understanding the core mechanics of paper io is critical to mastering it. Here’s what every player should know:
Movement
Players can move in four directions—up, down, left, and right. There is no diagonal movement, which makes planning your paths essential for survival.
Territory Control
Your initial base is a small colored area. Expanding involves stepping out, creating a loop, and returning to your own territory to fill the space.
Vulnerability
You are only safe inside your own space. While drawing outside, your trail can be severed by any player, resulting in immediate elimination.
Elimination
To remove opponents, intersect their line while they’re away from their base. This adds a competitive layer and opens opportunities to dominate more quickly.
