Filitra contains Vardenafil, a PDE5 inhibitor similar to Sildenafil, used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It works by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis, which increases blood flow and helps achieve and maintain an erection when sexually stimulated. Why Is Filitra Not Safe With Nitrates? Filitra (Vardenafil) should not be used with nitrates (medications often prescribed for angina or chest pain) because the combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Here's why: Nitrates (such as nitroglycerin or isosorbide dinitrate) work by dilating blood vessels to reduce chest pain. They lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. Vardenafil (Filitra) also works by dilating blood vessels, but specifically in the penis to improve blood flow and treat ED. When Filitra and nitrates are taken together, they can cause an excessive lowering of blood pressure (hypotension), which can lead to: Dizziness Fainting Heart attack Stroke The combination can be life-threatening, especially for individuals with underlying heart conditions. Therefore, if you're taking nitrates for heart-related conditions, it's crucial to avoid PDE5 inhibitors like Filitra and other similar medications for ED. Important Note: Always inform your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking, particularly nitrates or other heart medications, to ensure that they do not interact with ED treatments like Filitra.
