Malegra 100 mg contains Sildenafil, the same active ingredient found in Viagra, and is used primarily to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). One of the possible side effects of Sildenafil (and other PDE5 inhibitors like it) is nasal congestion. This happens due to the medication’s effect on blood vessels and smooth muscles throughout the body, including those in the nasal passages. Why Does Malegra 100 mg Cause Nasal Congestion? Nasal congestion occurs when the blood vessels in the nasal passages dilate (expand). Sildenafil works by inhibiting PDE5, an enzyme that regulates blood flow. While it primarily targets blood vessels in the penis to treat erectile dysfunction, it can also affect blood vessels in other areas of the body, including the nose. Here's how it works: Vasodilation: Sildenafil relaxes the smooth muscle and dilates blood vessels, not just in the penis, but also in other tissues, including the nasal passages. Increased Blood Flow to the Nose: This vasodilation increases blood flow to the nasal mucosa, which can cause swelling and congestion. Reduced Ability to Drain: The increased blood flow may also make it harder for the nose to clear itself, causing a stuffy or blocked feeling. When Can Malegra 100 Mg Cause Nasal Congestion? Immediate Effects: Nasal congestion can appear within an hour after taking Malegra 100 mg, as this is the time it typically takes for Sildenafil to begin working. Duration: The congestion is usually temporary, lasting a few hours, as the medication's effects wear off. It is most noticeable during the peak effect of the drug, which occurs roughly 1 to 2 hours after ingestion. Occurrence: Not everyone will experience nasal congestion as a side effect. It's more common in those who are sensitive to Sildenafil or who already have underlying nasal issues (like allergies, sinus problems, or a cold). People with pre-existing nasal congestion may be more likely to feel this effect.
