Chronic Kidney Disease Stages explain the progressive decline in kidney function and are grouped into five stages according to the glomerular filtration rate (GFR). In Stage 1, kidney damage is present but function remains normal with minimal symptoms. Stage 2 shows a slight reduction in kidney performance. Stage 3, split into 3A and 3B, involves a moderate loss of function with noticeable signs like tiredness and swelling. Stage 4 reflects severe kidney impairment needing careful medical management. Stage 5 is the final stage, known as kidney failure, where dialysis or a kidney transplant becomes necessary.
