I just returned from a weekend getaway to Kasauli, and I had to share a quick tip for anyone planning a visit. Most guides talk about the Mall Road walks and the toy train (which are fantastic, by the way), but the absolute highlight of my trip was visiting the Gurkha Fort. It’s a bit of a trek to get there—located about 4500 ft above sea level—but the view from the top is worth every step. You are essentially hiking through history. The fort is a ruin from the early 19th century, originally a British cantonment, and you can feel the old-world charm as you explore the remains. It’s not just about the history, though; the strategic location offers a panoramic view of the surrounding valleys that is simply unmatched. I went in the afternoon as suggested, and the lighting was perfect for photography. If you are a history buff or just looking for a peaceful spot away from the crowds, put the Gurkha Fort on your list. It’s a great alternative to the usual crowded viewpoints. Just make sure you wear your trekking shoes!
