I've been dealing with restless legs, random eye twitching, and really poor sleep for about six months. After reading up on symptoms, I thought magnesium might be worth checking. Went to my GP last week and asked directly for a magnesium blood test. She straight up said no – told me that most magnesium in the body is inside cells or in bone, so a standard blood test doesn't give a true picture anyway. She called it "clinically unhelpful" unless someone is critically ill or on dialysis.
I get her point, but I still feel stuck. I don't want to just guess and start taking supplements if I don't need them. I ended up ordering a private test online from a pharmacy service I found https://medicinesbymailbox.com/ just to get a baseline. It arrived within a couple of days – a simple finger prick kit you post back.
My question for the UK folks here – did your GP refuse too? And if you did test privately and found low levels, what did your GP actually do with that result? I don't want to waste money if they'll just ignore it. Thanks.
