Hi everyone, I am really hoping someone here has dealt with this before because I am getting frustrated and honestly a little worried about my car. I have an Infiniti Q50 and recently something weird started happening. When I am driving at normal speed everything feels fine. The car runs smooth no strange noises no warning lights. But when I come to a complete stop like at a traffic light or in heavy traffic the whole car starts to shake or vibrate. I can feel it in the steering wheel and even in the seat. It is not super violent but it is very noticeable and it makes the car feel kind of rough and uncomfortable. As soon as I take my foot off the brake and start moving again the shaking goes away completely. This only happens when the car is stopped and in drive. If I put it in neutral or park the shaking stops. I asked a friend who knows cars and he said it might be the engine mounts. He explained that the rubber in the mounts can wear out over time and then the engine vibrates against the frame instead of being isolated. That actually makes a lot of sense because my car has about 120,000 kilometers on it and I have never changed the mounts. I started looking online for solutions and found a place that offers engine mount replacement service Infiniti which seems like they specialize in exactly what I need. But before I book anything I wanted to ask the community if anyone has had this same problem. Did new engine mounts fix the shaking completely or could it be something else like spark plugs or a transmission issue? Also how much should I expect to pay for this job because I know engine mounts are not super expensive parts but the labor can be a lot since they have to lift the engine a bit. If any of you have done this repair on your Q50 or similar Infiniti model please tell me about your experience. Did the car feel like new again afterwards? Also how do I know if all the mounts need replacing or just one of them? I really do not want to spend money on unnecessary work but at the same time I want the shaking to stop. Thank you so much to anyone who takes the time to share their advice. I really appreciate it.

Shaking only when stopped in drive but stopping in neutral is a pretty classic engine mount symptom. Worth getting them checked before assuming anything more serious.

Your friend's diagnosis sounds reasonable honestly. At 120k kilometers engine mounts are definitely in the age range where they start to go. Spark plugs can also cause rough idle shaking so worth checking those too since they're cheaper to replace and easier to rule out first.

This matches engine mount symptoms pretty closely based on what you described. The neutral versus drive difference is the key detail since it means the issue is load related, which points to mounts rather than something electrical. Usually a mechanic can identify which specific mount is worn by inspecting them visually or by testing engine movement. Replacing just the bad one is fine if the others still look solid, no need to do all of them unless they're all worn.

I'd check spark plugs first since they're cheap and quick to rule out. If shaking continues after that then mounts are the next logical step.

Good that you're getting a community opinion before booking anything. Engine mounts on a Q50 at that mileage is a reasonable suspicion but spark plugs causing rough idle shaking is also common and much cheaper to fix first. Labor on engine mounts can vary quite a bit depending on which mount needs replacing since some are easier to access than others. Ask the mechanic to show you which specific mount is worn before agreeing to the work so you're not paying for ones that are still fine.
