Patch 0.5 has changed the mood around Path of Exile 2 in a pretty obvious way. It's not just another balance pass with a few numbers moved around. Return of the Ancients touches the Atlas, defences, ascendancies, crafting, and the way players think about early gearing with PoE2 Currency during the climb into tougher content. You can feel it even before the endgame. Some builds now come online faster, while others suddenly look awkward unless you already know how to patch their weak spots.

New ascendancies look ready to shake the ladder
The cleanest winners are the fresh ascendancies, especially Martial Artist and Spirit Walker. Martial Artist gives Monk players something they've wanted for a while: a fast, punchy melee style that doesn't feel stuck between damage and survival. Hollow Form clones, bell detonations, and Power Charge scaling all point toward a build that can clear maps quickly but still hit bosses hard. Spirit Walker is getting similar attention from Huntress players. Its companion play, rune tricks, and Runic Ward support make it feel built for this patch rather than squeezed into it. That matters a lot. New systems often punish older builds first, but these two seem to start from the right place.

Casters gained more than people expected
Spell builds weren't untouched, of course. Energy Shield changes made careless play more dangerous, and pure stacking is no longer the easy answer it used to be. Still, casters seem to have landed in a good spot compared with many attack builds. Chronomancer is the big surprise here. Its reworked time tools and better recovery windows fit the new defensive pace nicely. It can take a hit, delay pressure, and recover in a way that feels far less clumsy than before. Stormweaver also remains a safe pick for players who want smooth progression. Spark, Orb of Storms, cold conversion, and freeze control still do the boring but important job: they get you through maps without making every pack feel like a wrestling match.

The Atlas has a clearer purpose now
The endgame may be the biggest practical winner. Before this patch, plenty of players reached the Atlas and just drifted. Maps were there, monsters were there, rewards were there, but the whole thing could feel strangely flat. The new regional structure gives players more direction. You push through themed areas, work toward fortresses, follow story threads, and meet bosses with a stronger sense of place. Delirium, Ritual, and Breach also benefit from cleaner pacing and better readability. They're still dangerous, but less like visual noise dumped on top of visual noise. That's good news for hybrid defensive builds too, especially Evasion and Energy Shield setups that rely on layers instead of one huge defensive stat.

Old power loops are taking real hits
Bloodmage players probably have the roughest adjustment ahead. Leech changes, Covenant tuning, and Atziri's Acuity reworks all cut into the sustain loops that made expensive trigger setups feel so safe. The ascendancy isn't dead, but it won't carry sloppy gearing the way it sometimes did. Traditional melee also has bruises. Splash behaviour, slam scaling, Rolling Slam, Whirling Assault, and Boneshatter-style setups all feel the pressure. Players who loved those builds can still make them work, but they'll need better positioning and more investment. Crafting is another sore point, since recombinator changes remove a familiar route to top-end gear. For players planning around trade, farm routes, or whether to buy PoE2 Currency to speed up a reroll, the new patch rewards flexible builds far more than stubborn ones built around one broken trick.Patch 0.5 has shaken up Path of Exile 2, from Martial Artist hype to smarter Atlas progression and tougher build choices.
