Wells Fargo offers five main consumer credit cards in 2025, each built around a different financial goal. Choosing the right one before you apply matters — a card that doesn't match your spending habits means leaving rewards on the table or paying interest you could have avoided. If you received a pre-selected offer in the mail, you can apply directly using your access code at wellsfargo.com/myoffer. This article covers which Wells Fargo consumer credit card fits which situation, what to have ready before you apply, and what the application and approval process looks like.
The Five Wells Fargo Consumer Credit Cards — Which One Is Right for You
Card | Best For | Key Benefit | Annual Fee |
|---|
Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card | Everyday spending — simplest rewards structure | Unlimited 2% cash rewards on all purchases, no categories to track | $0 | Wells Fargo Autograph® Card | Dining, travel, gas, streaming, and phone bills | 3X points on top spending categories, 1X on everything else | $0 | Wells Fargo Autograph Journey? Card | Frequent travelers who want premium travel rewards | Up to 5X points on travel, $50 airline statement credit annually | $95 | Wells Fargo Reflect® Card | Paying down existing debt or financing a large purchase | 0% intro APR for 21 months on purchases and qualifying balance transfers | $0 | Wells Fargo Attune? World Elite Mastercard® | Wellness, fitness, and eco-friendly spending | 4% cash rewards on wellness, transit, streaming, and select eco purchases | $0 |
Active Cash — the one most people should start with
The Active Cash earns unlimited 2% cash rewards on every purchase with no categories to track and no enrollment required. It's the highest flat-rate card in Wells Fargo's lineup, offers a $200 cash rewards bonus after spending $500 in the first three months, and carries no annual fee. If you want simple, consistent rewards on everything you buy without thinking about it, this is the card.
Autograph — better if your spending concentrates in specific categories
The Autograph earns 3X points on restaurants, travel, gas stations, transit, streaming services, and phone plans. On everything else it earns 1X. If your monthly spending is heavy in those categories, the Autograph can outperform the Active Cash significantly. If your spending is spread across many categories, the Active Cash's flat 2% often wins. Some people hold both — earning 3X on Autograph bonus categories and 2% on everything else with the Active Cash.
Reflect — if eliminating debt is the goal, not earning rewards
The Reflect doesn't earn rewards. What it does is offer one of the longest 0% intro APR periods available — 21 months on both purchases and qualifying balance transfers. If you're carrying a balance on a high-interest card and want to move it somewhere interest-free while you pay it down, the Reflect is built for exactly that. The balance transfer fee is 5% (minimum $5). After 21 months, the standard variable APR kicks in, so the goal is paying the balance in full before that window closes.
Autograph Journey — for frequent travelers who can use the annual fee
At $95 annually, the Autograph Journey is the only premium card in Wells Fargo's consumer lineup. It earns up to 5X points on hotels, 4X on airlines, 3X on dining, and 1X on everything else. A $50 annual airline statement credit partially offsets the fee. If you travel regularly and can use the elevated points on actual travel, the Journey pays for itself. If you're a casual traveler, the no-fee Autograph is a better fit.
What Credit Score You Need to Apply
Wells Fargo doesn't publish exact score requirements, but based on reported applicant experiences:
- Good to excellent credit (670+): Strong approval odds for all five cards
- Fair credit (580–669): Approval possible for entry-level options but with a lower credit limit and higher APR
- Below 580: Most Wells Fargo consumer credit cards will be difficult to qualify for — building credit with a secured card first is the more practical path
Credit score is one factor. Wells Fargo also looks at your income relative to existing debt, recent hard inquiries, and your payment history. A clean payment history with moderate existing debt at a fair credit score can sometimes beat a higher score with recent late payments.
What to Have Ready Before You Apply
- Full legal name and current address
- Social Security number — required for the hard credit pull
- Total annual income — include employment, freelance, investment, or other regular income
- Monthly housing payment (rent or mortgage)
- Employment status
- If you received a pre-selected offer — your invitation or access code
The application takes about ten minutes online. Having income figures ready before you start prevents the most common interruption mid-form.
How to Apply for a Wells Fargo Consumer Credit Card
If you received a pre-selected offer
A pre-selected offer means Wells Fargo ran a soft credit inquiry on your file and determined you meet their preliminary criteria. Applying through your offer code at wellsfargo.com/myoffer connects your application to the specific terms in the invitation — which sometimes includes a better welcome bonus or promotional APR than the standard offer available to walk-up applicants. The code is typically valid for 30 to 60 days from the date on the invitation.
Pre-selection improves your approval odds but doesn't guarantee approval. A full hard inquiry still runs when you submit, and if your credit situation has changed significantly since the soft pull, the final decision may differ from what the invitation implied.
Applying directly through Wells Fargo's website
- Go to creditcards.wellsfargo.com and select the card you want to apply for.
- Click Apply Now on the card's page.
- Complete the personal and financial information sections.
- Review the terms and conditions and submit.
- Most applications receive an instant decision. Some go to manual review, in which case you'll receive a decision by mail within 7 to 10 business days.
If approved instantly, you may receive a temporary card number for immediate online use while the physical card arrives by mail within 7 to 14 business days.
