So I just went through this last month, moving from JLT to a place in Al Quoz, and honestly the gap between handing over one flat and getting keys to the next was almost three weeks. Nobody warns you about that.
I looked at two options. Leaving stuff with a friend (his spare room, basically a favour) or using a proper short-term storage unit. The friend route sounds free but it gets awkward fast, especially if you have bulky furniture or anything fragile.
I ended up going with a storage unit after finding a comparison on https://storagecompaniesdubai.top/ which listed a few providers with rough pricing per cubic metre. Ended up paying around 350 AED for the month for a small unit, which covered a bed frame, boxes, and a few appliances. Climate-controlled, which matters here in summer. No drama, no favours owed.
One thing I did not know before moving here is that Dubai has pretty specific rules around tenancy and notice periods. If you are new to all that, https://u.ae/ actually has a readable section on tenant rights that helped me understand my timeline better.
My honest verdict: if the gap is more than a week, just get a unit. The peace of mind is worth the few hundred dirhams.
