Only covered up a brief visit to Cabo Polonio and thought I'd reveal some feelings here, since I found lots of value in older posts concerning this place before you go myself.
I'll admit I was somewhat doubtful planning in. "Number streets, number power grid" day trips from Montevideo like it might be high for effect. It wasn't. This is truly among the more separated locations I've visited in Uruguay, and that solitude is actually the whole point.
Finding there is an experience in itself. You park at a great deal close to the entrance and switch to a 4x4 truck that drives right on the dunes, since there's no old-fashioned path into the village. The drive needed more than I expected, bouncing around mud the entire way, but it finished up being among the more wonderful areas of the trip.
A couple of useful things I picked up as you go along:
Energy is mainly solar or generator-powered, so it's not necessarily constant
Don't rely on phone signal, it's spotty at most readily useful and removed in most spots
Provide more cash than you think you'll need, cards aren't generally recognized
Nights get visibly cool, even if the days sense slight
The sea lion colony close to the lighthouse was quickly the standout moment, there have been far more of these than I expected, all stuffed onto the rocks. Seeing the sunset from the lighthouse soon after was a straightforward spotlight worth building your schedule around.
Food was low-key but excellent, largely small family-run places helping fresh seafood without much of a proper menu.
My overall impression: this can be a trip for individuals who want to genuinely decelerate and remove for a bit. If you'll need a stuffed schedule or constant Wi-Fi, it may feel a little too calm after the initial day.
Has anybody slept a lot more than two nights? Thinking if the knowledge improvements significantly after you obtain past the initial adjustment period.
