Hi everyone,
I’m researching a water softener system for a residential property because of ongoing hard-water issues such as scale buildup on taps, bathroom fittings, showerheads, and plumbing.
There seem to be several types of water softeners available, and I’m trying to understand what factors matter most before choosing one.
From what I’ve learned, some important things to check are:
- Water hardness level
- Household water consumption
- Required system capacity
- Flow rate
- Installation space
- Maintenance requirements
- Regeneration and salt requirements
- Long-term operating cost
I also came across this video about water softener systems, which I found useful for understanding the basics:

For those who already use a water softener, what type of system are you using? Did you test your water hardness before purchasing, and what has your experience been with maintenance and performance?
I’d be interested to hear what you would recommend checking before buying a system.
