Been going back and forth on this for weeks now and could really use some outside perspective.
We're at the point where we need real AI agent development solutions built for our internal ops, think automated ticket routing and follow ups. Question is whether we hire a custom AI development company to build this or try pulling something together with our existing dev team who have zero AI specific experience.
Our devs are solid engineers but none of them have actually shipped an AI agent before. Worried that going in-house means months of trial and error we don't have time for. On the other hand, a custom AI development company means handing off control and hoping they actually understand our workflows.
A few things I keep going back and forth on:
Whether AI agent development solutions built in-house from scratch are ever worth the learning curve for a first project
How much context an outside team can realistically absorb about internal processes before building something usable
Anyone actually made this call before? Which way did you go and would you do it again?
