Our firm is currently reviewing its cybersecurity and IT setup, and one of the main questions is whether it makes sense to work with a provider that specializes specifically in Registered Investment Advisors.
While researching different approaches, I came across https://www.cybersecureria.com/, which focuses on cybersecurity and IT services for RIA firms.
For those who work with or manage an RIA, how important is industry specialization when choosing a cybersecurity provider? Does having experience with RIA compliance, security policies, risk assessments, and regulatory requirements make a noticeable difference compared with using a general managed IT provider?
I would also be interested to hear what criteria you consider most important when evaluating cybersecurity companies for a financial advisory business.
Why I'm asking:
There are plenty of general cybersecurity and managed IT companies available, but RIAs have additional compliance and documentation requirements. I’m trying to understand whether choosing a provider that already understands the RIA environment can simplify cybersecurity management and compliance, or whether industry specialization is less important than the provider’s overall technical experience.
